I bet Les is a good dad. I don’t want to sound mean but Sue kind of looks like a bitch. I’m probably wrong though.

I want to do this so bad my family would love it

You guys are nuts. Living in city is environmentally much more viable. Just imagine one million people doing what you’ve done, it would ruin HUGE areas of land, everyone having his own wells and such. Helicopters flying around timber and, it’s despicable crap. Living there produces green house gases, wastes energy and social/mental retardation beyond anything acceptable.

Someone needs to say this: For every 100 males that secretly and not so secretly want to live some variation of the simplier life, 1 female (at best) genuinely wants to live this way. It might be proof that God really doesn’t love us. Very few males (including myself) want to go out there alone, so we keep hoping to get lucky, meet that one in a hundred, like Scott Nearing or this guy did. I’m not being sexist, just honest. I’ve recently split from a woman that I hoped would “wake up”.

you dont have to go feral to go off the grid

  11. DannysCam says:

the women who want to live in the woods.. look like men

  12. myroncope says:

oh hell yeah. the only thing that will really reduce CO2 emissions is urban living that’s not reliant on fossil fuel energy. There’s not enough land area on the planet to fit 100 people per acre in a rural setting let alone a family of four..

  13. ROFLpwnedvideos says:

Yet if a million people went and did this, and cities became smaller…wilderness would reclaim them.

  14. lavelliINC says:

seems like a nice idea if you have your partner already, but selfish to seclude their kids like that.

  15. iluvameriduh says:

Imagine if you tried to understand what you just said? I’ll let you think about that, i’ll check later. Wow, and who says america is doomed…hey, that would be me!

  16. jobaccamasakado says:

there is obviously a balance that needs to be found. look at katrina and how people were lost without others to help them. and then look at how many neighborhoods that started with good intentions and ideas, that have become slums/

then look up dick proeneke and see how he went after the life he wanted. and the flip side would be chris mccandless and his ill-prepared/ ill-fated adventure.

good luck to you. we need to do something, and it seems to only takes initiaitve. we should take notes.

  17. iggypoprhcp says:

@DannysCam And have no personality. It’s horrible for guys like us.

  18. solarcabin says:

Going off grid does not have to mean living in the remote wilderness.

I have lived for 15 years off grid in a solar cabin I built myself. I garden, raise animals, hunt and fish for most of my food supplies.

I drilled my own well, solar composting toilet, and solar water heater and I have no house payments and no utility bills.

BUT I also have internet, antennae tv, cell phone and live 15 minutes from a good sized town.

You can see my off grid cabin by clicking solarcabin.

  19. Landrew0 says:

I was fairly disappointed by this show. Living off the grid is not about spending a lot of money for a wind and solar system and putting it in your house. To make it work, you need to understand at least the basics.

Les devoted maybe 30 seconds to the technical aspects, claiming near-total ignorance. Any off-grid proponent should take the time to learn is at least the basics of how this works, and the basics of energy flow.

To simply hire everything done is not a sustainable practice.

  20. projectdurden says:

anyone know how to find strouds place on google earth?

  21. MrJotunheim says:

still you have to find a woman that is likely to live in the wilderness with you without bitching about all kind of shopping and buting silly things you don’t need .the next WW l l l is coming soon and we have to make our best to learn to survive in a real life and i real situation .this life we are living right now is shity.

revoke custody of the children for criminal negligence. you are depriving them o f the very resources that allowed you to grow up and come to the conclusion that you should leave society. that decision should be theirs, not yours
