Keith Thompson: Totally Off The Grid

Keith aka Skeeter is living totally off the grid. Starting with a raw plot of land, he built his house from scratch, dug a well, created a solar power system and is completely responsible for all his waste. Keith is a good example of someone who got tired of paying utilities and mortgages to live on earth. He took matters into his own hands and decided to be as independent as possible. Deciding to live out in the wilderness is one way to go off the grid. We’ll be exploring other ways of being independent in urban environments in some of our next posts. Thanks Keith!

That’s an awesome idea! Everyone lives tax and rent free, just pitch in with crops, and things like that. Have a big party every week, celebrating life. Sounds like an awesome time, man!

I’m looking for people like Skeeter to start a community in north east Bulgaria. Land is relatively cheap and soil is very good.

    Great stuff !
Having lived off grid for years.
I would get a Honda 1000 or 2000 for back up power.
It is not worth it to have a huge batt bank.

  17. scoobydog411 says:

thanks thats cool . What is your job so you can live there?

I was really feeling off grid living until I saw a video on here where someone found two BIG ass black snakes in their chicken coop. I imagined myself going to get eggs in the morning from my little coop and finding those two mofos in there wrapped around my darling chickens.

I guess that off grid living is just like living here in New York: Location Location Location… LOL. If I still do the off grid thing, it’s gonna be where there aren’t any giant snakes. Kinda narrows my choices. lol

It’s amazing he was able to do all of this with a city kid background. It gives me hope that maybe I could live on less.

Cool video. I told my wife we can sell the house when our kids are grown, She can get a condo and I will get land out in the desert and build something like this. A little bit nicer, maybe buy a large shed kit thats 1400 sq feet and just rig solar and wind and maybe one of those new boxes that generate power. All I do is hang out on the internet. The internet is great, you can get local news, stream movies, watch music videos on youtube, play games. Hell I might even buy a slate.

@MrChameleon2010 great idea…but you might not have time till your kids are grown. Skeeter will be set when the rest of us are scratching our heads.

  23. FatDaddy4Fun says:

Skeeter rules! If I had the resources, I’d be right there too. Although northern washington next to the national forest is more my style. I’m working towards it. I hope there is enough time left.
